Doctolib: un'utile risorsa per trovare un medico a Parigi (e in tutta la Francia!)

Oggi voglio parlavi di questa utilissima risorsa francese per trovare facilmente un dottore a Parigi (o in altre zone della Francia): doctolib.fr
Come ben saprete, mi sono trasferita da poco in Francia e OVVIAMENTE dovevo iniziare a stare male a soli due mesi dal mio arrivo, quando ancora non ho l'assicurazione sanitaria e non parlo francese (com'è facile a volte la vita eh?). Inizialmente temevo di dover chiamare tutti i dottori della zona per beccarne uno che sapesse parlare inglese, ma poi ho scoperto Doctolib e ho tirato un sospiro di sollievo!

In pratica si tratta di un database di dottori divisi per specialità. Tutto quello che dovrete fare è inserire la tipologia di medico che state cercando (medico di base, cardiologo, etc ), la città, cliccare su Rechercher...

 e voilà: avrete la lista dei dottori disponibili con le relative localizzazioni su una mappa!

Un esempio dei risultati

La cosa più interessante sta nel fatto che non si tratta di un mero elenco di dottori: ogni medico ha la sua pagina personale nella quale potreste trovare informazioni molto utili come le lingue parlate (ottimo se state cercando un dottore che parli inglese), il costo di una visita ed il tipo di convenzione! Potete anche eventualmente prenotare la visita online controllando la disponibiltà del curante e prenotando uno slot libero (dovrete creare un profilo, ma è un operazione facilissima anche se il sito è in francese).

Ultima chicca: oltre al sito web è disponibile anche l'app per smartphone ed è gratuita (io  uso praticamente solo quella!)

Doctolib: a useful resource for finding your doctor in Paris (and in France)

Today I want to talk about a really useful resource that I discovered some weeks ago: doctolib.fr
 I just arrived in France and, OBVIOUSLY, I started to feel really sick and I needed a GP even if I don't speak french (and you probably know how happy are french people about speaking in English...).
At the beginning, I was afraid of calling all the doctors for finding an English speaking one, but I discovered Doctolib and things went better :)

Doctolib is a database of French doctors: all you need is to insert the kind of doctor you are looking for (cardiologist, general practitioner, etc etc), your address, click on Rechercher...

and voilà: you obtain the list all the doctors in your selected area (you can also look at their localization on the map).

Doctolib is not simply a list of doctors: each doctor has a personal page where you could find useful information like languages spoken (perfect if you are looking for an English speaking doctor!), prize of a consultation, and type of convention. In most of the cases, is also possible to book a visit directly online!

Certificato di nascita plurilingue: cos'è e dove trovarlo

Se decidete di trasferivi o di spendere un periodo considerevole all'estero il vostro futuro paese potrebbe richiedervi un certificato di nascita plurilingue. Cos'è? Quanto costa? Dove si può ottenere?

Anche se tra poco scoprirete che si tratta di una cosa semplicissima, ho visto tantissime persone andare in panico per questo documento!

Il certificato di nascita plurilingue è semplicemente un documento che attesta la vostra nascita scritto in più lingue che viene accettato (senza necessità di traduzione o legalizzazione) da tutti i paesi che hanno adetiro alla convenzione di Vienna dell'8 Settembre 1976 (link al sito della prefettura italiana con un elenco dei paesi aderenti -> click)

Questo documento si richiede gratuitamente presso il vostro comune di nascita e potrebbe servire per alcune pratiche burocratiche del paese estero dove vi state per trasferire o dove vivete (iscrizione al comune, matrimonio etc etc).

Quindi, se ad esempio andate in Francia e vi richiedono un documento di nascita che valga anche in territorio francese, non fate il grandissimo errore di far tradurre il vostro certificato italiano da un traduttore giurato (operazione che ha anche un certo costo oltre a farvi perdere tempo): andate al vostro comune e richiete semplicemente il modello plurilingue!

Nella mia esperienza ho dovuto presentare questo documento in due occasioni:

1. Registrazione al comune di Maastricht, in Olanda.
2. Richiesta dell'assicurazione medica, in Francia.

Come vedete, quindi, ha una certa utilità ma fortunatamente non è difficile da ottenere! 

E come fare se non siete in Italia, vi siete già trasferiti e non avete nessuno che può passare al comune al posto vostro? Niente panico! Consultate il sito internet del vostro comune: molte volte, infatti, viene offerto un servizio di spedizione del certificato via e-mail!

SOS doctor in the Netherlands! My experience in Maastricht

Feeling not so good in a foreign country (especially if you are just arrived or you are a tourist) could a be a not so lovely experience and you can start having questions like:

Where can I find a doctor?
Will the doctor speak English?
Is the hospital the best option?

Everything is new and, even if finding a proper doctor in the Netherlands is not so hard, everything could seem complicated because maybe you don't feel exactly good!

For people living in the Netherlands, a private health insurance is mandatory. But what if you are simple a turist or an Erasmus?
During my permanence in Maastricht I went a couple of time to GP and now I want share with you my experience as european citizen in the Netherlands!

NB: if it's really an emergency remember to call the european emergency number 112, please!

The first good news is that in the Netherlands there are many english speaking people including the doctors.  A friend of mine that lives in Amsterdam has an English speaking GP and even in a not so big city like Maastricht I've found an English speaking doctor without any problem.

I my case I aways anticipate the money for the doctor and for the medicine (and I asked for the rembursment in italy). So, remember to take always all the bills!!!

However, if you need a GP you have two alternatives: go to the hospital or searching on Internet :)

Hospital
This could be the most obvious solution: you can go to the emergency and ask for a family doctor. I remember that this option was really expensive. I've checked the price of a hospital near my house and the cost of a visit was about 80 euros!!

Search for a doctor on internet
Google can be really your friend if you need a doctor! The word general practitioner can be translated in dutch as "huisarts", so looking for huishart plus the name of the street and the city where you live, can help to find a doctor in your area. Once you found the nearest one just call, explain you problem an book an appointment. The consult is cheaper that the hospital.

My experience
Why I needed a doctor? What happened? One day I got a terrible cystitis and I was really bad...
I searched on google one GP and I booked an appointment with the secretary, that was really kind and helpful! One hour later I was in the studio of the doctor :)
They gave a test for verifying the infection and they prescribed me drugs. In the building of the doctor there was also a pharmacy: the secretary just sent my prescription and I just retired my medicine on the ground floor after the visit! I paid around 27 euros plus the cost of the medicine.
I returned to the doctor other times for a checkup and in general I had a really good experience!

SOS dottore! La mia esperienza a Maastricht.

Spesso quando si parte per una vacanza o per un periodo temporaneo all'estero non si ci preoccupa molto d'informarsi su come contattare un medico in caso bisogno! E se ci viene l'influenza? E se mangiamo troppo e ci sentiamo male?

Vi racconterò ora la mia esperienza con i dottori olandesi.

La prima cosa che dovete sempre tenere a mente è quella di chiamare il 112 (numero europeo per emergenze) in caso stiate davvero male.

Per quanto riguarda il medico di base dovete sapere che per le persone che vivono in Olanda c'è bisogno di un'assicurazione sanitaria privata: cosa che voi, da turisti o erasmus, ovviamente non avete. E quindi? Cosa è possibile fare?

La prima buona notizia è che gli olandesi hanno un ottimo livello d'inglese e quindi non dovrebbe essere troppo difficile trovare un dottore che parla anche inglese (non dovrete esprimervi a gesti!!). La seconda cosa che dovete sapere è che dovrete anticipare voi i soldi delle visite per poi richiedere il rimborso in italia (conservate tutte le ricevute!).

Per ottenere un consulto da un medico di base avete due possibilità: recarvi in ospedale oppure cercarne uno e prenotare un appuntamento.

Ospedale

Andare in ospedale potrebbe sembravi la cosa più scontata. Se andate nel reparto emergenze potrete chiedere informazioni riguardo gli orari di un medico di base: tenete conto che questa è l'alternativa più cara. Mi ricordo che il prezzo per un consulto era di 80 euro circa.

Cercare un dottore per conto vostro

L'espressione medico di base può essere tradotta in olandese con il termine 'huisarts'. Munitevi del vostro fidato Google e cercate huishart unito alla città e alla strada dove vivete. Dovreste trovare senza problemi una lista di dottori disponibili: chiamate, fate presente che non avete un'assicurazione privata e spiegate la vostra situazione. Le visite del medico di base costano di meno: io ho pagato attorno ai 27 euro più il costo delle medicine per la cura.

La mia esperienza

Perchè ho avuto bisogno di andare da un medico? Purtroppo un bel giorno mi è venuto un fortissimo attacco di cistite e stavo malissimo! Ho cercato quindi un medico su Google (con le modalità che vi ho spiegato prima) e ho chiamato.

La segretaria è stata molto gentile, ha ascoltato il mio problema e mi ha dato un appuntamento in 1 ora.

Arrivata lì mi è stato fatto un test per verificare l'infezione e mi è stata prescritta la cura. Non ho neanche avuto bisogno di passare in una farmacia perchè lo studio del medico si trovava in una struttura con farmacia annessa, la segretaria ha semplicemente trasferito la prescrizione al piano inferiore e ho ritirato il farmaco dopo la visita! Veramente efficienti!

Sperando che non avrete mai bisogno di usare queste informazioni, non esitate a lasciare un commentino se, come me, vi siete ritrovati malaticci in Olanda e volete condividere la vostra esperienza :)

Come procurarsi una bicicletta usata a Maastricht

Anche se ho lasciato Maastricht da un po' posso ancora darvi un sacco di consigli utili :)

Maastricht è una città a misura di bicicletta ed è assolutamente fondamentale che ve ne procuriate una il prima possibile! Gli olandesi adorano andare in bici e le strade pullulano di piste ciclabili.

Se avete intenzione di trascorrere un periodo a Maastricht vi consiglio di prendere una bicicletta usata, anche perchè il prezzo di quelle nuove è abbastanza caro!
Ma come fare? Il mercato delle bici sembra una jungla e non è assolutamente facile capire come districarsi. Qui vi dò qualche dritta sui due principali modi per acquistare una bici usata: negozio oppure sui gruppi Facebook.

Gruppi Facebook
Su Facebook potrete trovare alcuni gruppi utili per la compravendita di biciclette usate, tanto per citarne uno vi lascio Buy/sell a bike in Maastricht (ma ne potete trovare tanti altri cercando parole simili).

Il vantaggio di comprare una bici sui gruppi Facebook è sicuramente il prezzo: in genere le bici non sono care e potreste anche fare un vero e proprio affare perchè chi le vende spesso è uno studente che sta lasciando il paese e quindi non bada troppo al guadagno.

Purtroppo però c'è il rovescio della medaglia perchè si, le occasioni sono possibili, ma dovete essere anche fortunati! Spesso, infatti, le bici che girano su Facebook sono degli ammassi di ferraglia al limite dell'utilizzabile oppure sono biciclette con dei difetti che vengono camuffati sul momento per poi presentarsi nel tempo...
Se acquistate una bici su Facebook vi consiglio di provarla attentamente anche perchè, come ho già spiegato, chi vende spesso lascia il paese dopo poco e vi potreste trovare nella seguente (comunissima) situazione:

1. Comprate una bici ad un prezzo ragionevole e siete anche contenti
2. Dopo qualche giorno iniziano a spuntare delle sorprese: rumori strani, ruote che si sgonfiano, luci che non funzionano etc etc...
3. Contattate l'ex proprietario per parlare del problema ma scoprite che purtroppo è già andato via...

Altro problema sono le biciclette rubate: non è facile capire quando si tratta di bici rubate, ma se trovate una bici nuovissima e funzionante a 30 euro fatevi delle domande...
Alcune persone non si fanno scrupoli nel comprare bici rubate: dovete sapere che i furti di bici rappresentano un crimine molto diffuso a Maastricht e se acquistate con gioia qualcosa che sapete essere stato rubato mi auguro che siate altrettanto felici quando ruberanno la vostra di bicicletta per rivenderla a persone come voi :) Ma vabè il mio è solo un punto di vista...
Quindi per le bici su facebook

Pro

1. Economiche.
2. Potreste fare un affare.
3. Magari incontrate un venditore simpatico e fate amicizia :).

Contro

1. Rischio di bici rubate.
2. Rischio di acquistare un ferraglia ronzante che si autodistruggerà dopo pochi utilizzi.

Negozi
Le bici usate vendute in negozio sono solitamente più care ma spesso vengono controllate prima della vendita e viene offerto un periodo di riparazione gratuito.
Personalmente una volta arrivata a Maastricht decisi di comprare la bici in un negozio e andai da Jules
Tutte le bici (sia che siano un portento, sia che facciano schifo) costano 75 euro o 70 se avete la carta.
Onestamente mi sono trovata benissimo e la mia bici non ha richiesto mai nessun tipo di manutenzione in 6 mesi (ma forse sono stata fortunata...)

Se dovete stare a Maastricht per un periodo superiore a 6 mesi vi consiglio di andare in un negozio: spenderete di più, ma avrete più probabilità di acquistare una bici senza sorprese.

Pro

1. In generale le condizioni delle bici sono migliori.
2. Stress-saving: non dovete contattare valanghe di persone e fissare appuntamenti.

Contro

1. Prezzo.
2. Controllate sempre la bici: un costo maggiore non implica necessariamente una qualità migliore.

Consigli generali
Ecco infine una piccola lista di consigli che valgono sempre e possono tornarvi utili.

Ricordate sempre di controllare accuratamente la bicicletta (specialmente se costosa). Non potete pretendere di avere qualcosa funzionante per 30/40 euro ma è bene essere consci dei difetti per farvi un'idea di quanto costa la riparazione.
Non bisogna essere degli esperti per scovare dei problemi importanti, ricordatevi di

1. Verificare che il sellino, qualora non fosse dell'altezza adatta, sia regolabile.
2. Controllare il funzionamento di ENTRAMBI i freni.
3. Controllare TUTTE le marce.
4. Verificare le condizioni delle ruote.
5. Controllare che le luci funzionino.

Prima di comprare una bici, fatevi un'idea di quanto costano in generale le riparazioni (come esempio vi riporto i prezzi di Jules link): ricordatevi che potete rimediare in giro luci nuove e sellini a prezzi irrisori (avete dato un'occhiata sul sito del negozio Action? :) ) quindi valutate bene.

Un piccolo spaesato consiglio: se la bici che acquistate include una catena, prendete caldamente in considerazione l'idea di cambiarla oppure di comprarne un'altra specialmente se vi viene data solo una chiave. Perchè? Bhè spesso i lucchetti per le bici hanno 2 chiavi e se voi ne avete ricevuta una potrebbe verificarsi che qualcun altro magari ha l'altra (ma forse sono solo malpensante).

E ricordatevi sempre di legare adeguatamente la vostra bici perchè i furti sono frequentissimi: assicuratela sempre vicino ad un palo o ad un altra struttura simile.

How to find a second hand bike in Maastricht

Even if I moved from Maastricht I still have plenty of useful advice :D

The Netherlands it's a bike-friendly country and in a small city like Maastricht you absolutely need a bike!
New bikes can be really expensive and, especially if you are planning to stay only for a short period, the best solution are second-hand bikes! But where you can find one? Here I will give you some advice.

Facebook groups
There many Facebook groups for buying/selling a bike and one of the most popular is Buy/sell a bike in Maastricht .

The bike that you can see on Facebook groups are generally not so expensive (the average price is 40/60 euros) but there are many pro and cons that you have to take into consideration.

The main advantage is that you can really save money and make a great deal because sometimes the sellers are people that are leaving Maastricht and they sell their bike for a really affordable price. But you have to be lucky and this situation is not really common...

What happens really often is that, even if the bike looks great in the picture, at the end you will discover a pile of rubbish...  Some people are honest and they describe in the advertisement that something in the bike is not working but other no, so you have to CHECK CAREFULLY the bike!
As explained before, many of the sellers are people leaving Maastricht, so what could happen is that:

1.  You buy a bike
2. After some days you realise that is half broken
3.  You contact the original seller for having your money back

But at this point is too late because probably he/she already left the country!

Furthermore, there is the problem of  the stolen bikes: some people don't care about this problem and they have absolutely no regrets in buying stolen bike but I have a different point of view.
In Maastricht, there are a lot of bike's thieves and they continue to steal bikes because there are customers that will buy them. If you happy with you stolen bike, I wish you to be equally happy if your bike will be stolen for selling it to people like you :)
Of course is not easy to know when a bike is stolen but if you have some doubts please don't buy it!

So, let's summarise pro and cons about buying a bike on Facebook:

Pro

• Cheaper that the shops!
• You can find an occasion
• Youn can meet nice people :)

Cons

• Be careful about stolen bikes
• Be aware of not buying broken bikes (it happens more for the bikes sold on facebook)

Shops
The prices of the bikes into the shops are less cheaper than Facebook, but mostly of the shops check the bikes before selling then or they offer a warranty of 2/3 months.
If you will stay in Maastricht for a long period (like 1 year), I advise you to take into consideration the bike shops. Maybe you will pay more but will spend less money in repairs.

I bought my bike in Jules in the city centre. You can find it at Bouillonstraat 12 and all the bikes cost 75 euros (or 70 if you have the Jules card). I had absolutely no problems with my bike and it worked great for six months :)
Another shop that sells second-hand bikes (and is also good for fixing problem) is TMN-Bike in Scharnerweg 86.

Pro

• Bikes are (I hope!) not stolen
• Bikes are usually checked and not in so bad condition
• Stress-saving: you don't have to contact  people, schedule an appointment etc etc

Cons

• Price
• Paying more doesn't imply better quality. Even if is a shop always remembers to check the bike

General advice
If you decide for Facebook or a shop remember ALWAYS to check carefully a bike, especially if is expensive. You don't have to be a bike expert for discovering big issues, here is a little list of things that you can easily check by yourself:

1. If the seat doesn't fit you, is it adjustable?
2. Are both lights working? 
3. Check the condition of the wheels
4. Remember to try all the gears
5. Rember to try both the brakes

Most of the time, cheap bikes has always some problems, try to understand it and maybe ask how much will cost the fixing. For example, here the prices of Jules: link

Take into consideration that there are problems that could be easily fixed.  Take a look, for example, at the shop Action: they have cheap lights, seats and accessories for the bikes. So if the bikes are in good conditions but lights are not working you can buy them for a cheap price.

The last small advice: especially if your bike is with lock included and you receive only one key take into consideration the idea of buying another lock.

Why? Usually, a lock has 2 keys and if you receive only one means that could be someone else that maybe has the other key :)

And, always remember to lock your bike: Maastricht is full of bike thieves so please pay attention!
